Purpose:
This policy outlines procedures for the proper shutdown and power management of office equipment to conserve energy, reduce energy costs, and extend the lifespan of equipment.
Scope:
This policy applies to all employees and contractors working in the office.
Policy:
- Daily Shutdown:
- Employees are expected to utilize power-saving modes on all devices in use throughout the workday.
- At the end of each workday, all employees are responsible for:
- Turning off computers, monitors, printers, scanners, and other office equipment.
- Unplugging chargers for phones, laptops, and other devices when not in use.
- Switching off lights and any other non-essential electrical appliances.
- Employees leaving early should ensure that their workstations are properly shut down before leaving.
- Weekend and Holiday Shutdowns:
- On weekends and holidays, a designated team member will be responsible for:
- Performing a final check of all office equipment and ensuring it is properly switched off.
- Unplugging chargers and appliances as needed.
- Checking that all lights and non-essential equipment are turned off.
- Exceptions:
- Servers and other critical equipment may require continuous operation.
- Exceptions to this policy may be made for specific projects or circumstances but must be approved by our sustainability coordinator, Yasmin Isam.
- Training and Awareness:
- All new employees will receive training on this policy during their onboarding process.
- Regular reminders will be conducted to reinforce the importance of this policy.
- Consequences:
- Failure to comply with this policy may result in disciplinary action, as outlined in the company’s disciplinary policy.
- Review:
This policy will be reviewed and updated annually to ensure its effectiveness and address any necessary changes.
